PROGRAMME PART I: Foundation of Leaders for Learning Programme:
QUALIFICATION: BRONZE CERTIFICATION
POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATE – ADVANCED BEGINNER
The Bronze level focuses on acquiring knowledge. This level is designed to give participants the foundational understanding of the methodology so they can start applying the principles to their thinking in their work environment. Participants are required to successfully complete classroom training as well as a series of online courses and readings.
The essence of leadership concerns the capacity of a human community to shape and navigate their organization to its future. Foundations for Leaders for Learning delves into both the personal and inherently collective aspects of leadership. At the workshops, leaders are taken through an experience of deepening their understanding of the five disciplines, both personal and team-based namely personal mastery, mental models, team learning, systems thinking and shared vision, as they apply to leading and initiating meaningful change. Guided by Peter Senge’s book The Fifth Discipline, this deeply personal workshop helps participants understand who they are as leaders.
- Five (5) teaching modules each lasting an average of four (4) days spaced at minimum a month apart, spans five (5) months. The training programme sessions are as listed in the table above. Kindly refer here for room setups and house rules.
- In addition, the Technical Specialist (Consultant) shall undertake hourly coaching sessions with the Programme Coordinator and his unit every two weeks for the duration of the project in providing guidance in the organization of the training and intersession works. This is Add-on Service Option #1.
PROGRAMME PART II: Applied Organizational Learning for Results
QUALIFICATION: SILVER CERTIFICATION
POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA – COMPETENT
The focus of the Silver level is the application of knowledge. This level is designed to ensure that participants who have earned Bronze Certification are able to apply the methodologies and techniques to their management roles. Participants are required to demonstrate classroom competency in the methodology, continued study through online courses, and successfully complete projects and role-play demonstrations.
- Whether within an organization, a value chain, or a community, deep change often involves building networks of trust and collaboration across boundaries, within and among organizations sectorally. This series of workshop will build skills that you can use right away to make change and move from polarization and inertia to collectively envision, initiating, and creating new futures. Special attention will be given to how to help shift the collective focus from just reacting to problems to releasing collective creativity.
- Undertake five (5) counts of intersession works with each participant, each lasting four (4) hours to guide participants’ practice field on a specific area of interest for each participant. This programme is undertaken on completion of the Foundation for Leaders for Learning programme.
- There will be a total of 480 man-hours of works for 24 participants. The conduct of the intersession works shall follow each teaching module with the support of two teaching assistants and a research analyst assigned by the Technical Specialist (Consultant). This is Add-on Service Option #2.
- By the end of the intersession works, the participant would have received 140 hours or 17.5 contact days over the course of ten (10) months duration with the Technical Specialist on understanding the works as well as learning to apply the works on their specific issue of interest.
- The purpose of these sessions is to allow each participant seek to understand and learn to prepare interventions for a resistant issue that exists within the sector to which the participant belongs to and present their findings on systemic intervention strategies to their principals and stakeholders with a view to seeking feedback on their learning development as well as considerations of the recommended interventions. The works of the research analyst for the interim will be led by the Technical Specialist (Consultant).
During the intersession work, each participant will undertake to practice a Ten (10)-Step Action Plan to implement the principles of a Learning Organization:
- Learn to understand and recognize a mandate with systemic impact or stubborn problem or persistent issue for their sector.
- Identify and choose in collaboration with their principals an issue for their sector that has an impact nationwide and has stayed resistant in spite of efforts to change its course. These may include, as in the case of Agriculture and Natural Resources: Level of Crop Production, as opposed to work productivity which may be a topic undertaken by Labour Productivity, for example.
- Identify factors for the selected problem that requires data collection.
- Locate and populate data for all of the factors (participants would have completed Module 2 at this stage).
- Recognize relevant behaviour over time (BOT) graphs that are linked to the system archetypes.
- Uncover direct and indirect system archetypes (based on the Onion, a system designed by the Technical Specialist (Consultant)) and seek for relevant data, as needed.
- Identify leverage action areas based on Law #8 of the Laws of Dynamics Complexity. At this stage, participants are gaining a good mastery of the tools of Systems Thinking.
- Recommend and then present systemic approaches both to their principals and at a stage to be decided, with affected stakeholders (at this point they would need to collect data beyond from their own organization).
- Be present and consider presentations made by participants from other organizations.
- Identify and roll-out systems of identifying progress evaluation and monitoring for the national systemic approaches. At this stage, participants have gained a good mastery of the practice of implementing a Learning Organization.
In the course of undergoing the training course workshops and undertake the intersession works, the participants will gain a good mastery of the tools of Systems Thinking as well as gain on the practice of implementing a Learning Organization.
